MOUNTAIN BIKING in East Scotland

Some say that Scotland is the best country in the world for mountain biking. While I can't claim to have cycled in many countries, I do know that mountain biking in Scotland is pretty special, and a great way to do lots of things: stay fit, see the countryside and its wildlife, make friends and generally do something completely different from everyday life (unless you happen to be a professional cyclist).

With my friends, I've done over eighty after-work mountain bike trips over the last few years. Most of the routes described in this site tend to be within an hour and half's drive of Dundee, where I work, and completable in two or three hours, but there are some longer and further afield routes too. On almost every trip we haven't met a soul. It seems that on weekday evenings the countryside is almost completely devoid of people! In this beautiful part of the world, getting away from it all is easy.

The RED routes on the map below are some of my favourites. You can zoom and scroll around the map to find more routes or look closer.
